November Cornish Cottage Renovation Update

Stairs and landing area Cornish Cottage Renovation

Not knowing the area very well we decided to "shop local" and found a small carpet company in Long Rock called The Carpet & Home store. Their tag line reads "large enough for choice and service...small enough to care". We were warmly greeted, the staff were helpful but not pushy. Lots of choice and price ranges.

Having pondered long and hard on the sample books we decided on the Malabar range, two fold wool loop 100% pure wool quality British carpet by the Cormer Carpet Company.

Within a couple of days a very helpful chap came to measure up and advise us. In some areas the existing underlay was perfectly reusable and did not need replacing, so saved us some money. A date was set for the laying of carpet in two sessions to enable us to move bedrooms and paint throughout.

Having received the Earthborn paint we set to work. Ceilings and wood paneling were rolled so good progress was made. The granite walls were more of a challenge and required a stippling effect to reach in to all of the grooves. The Earthborn paint was exactly right for the job. It's beautifully thick and creamy texture made it easy to apply without dripping everywhere. It gave a lovely warm matt finish that enhanced the light in the room and was fun to use. We are very pleased with the results, far superior to any paints we have used in the past. The paint had no lingering smell, is free of acrylics, oils and vinyls and so is eco friendly.

We are thoroughly enjoying the experiences and challenges the old cottage brings, trying to be sympathetic by not making too many changes.
