Stunning late 19th Century walnut card box by London makers Farthing & Thornhill.
Award winning box maker Walter Thornhill built up a great reputation for the quality of his work, winning a prize medal at the Great Exhibition of 1851, the International Exposition of 1855 in Paris, the International Exhibition of 1862 and then multiple medals at the International Exposition of 1878 in Paris.
This beautiful card box with its elegant brass features and pearl inlay really showcase the quality of his work. The box is not in perfect condition, is missing a corner inlay and has a split on either side as shown. That being said it remains solid and functional.
