A fine early 19th century Chinese export tea caddy.
Black lacquer tea caddy with gilt decoration featuring traditional ceremonial scenes with elders, pagodas and outstanding, heavily patterned gold detail. The hinged lid opens to reveal a two section lidded pewter division with engraved lids. The inner lid is monogrammed with initials TE. The caddy is raised upon four carved wooden dragon feet with open mouthed expressions.
Overall in excellent condition, with areas of minor loss or wear as shown. No key present.
The caddy measures: 20cm wide x 14.5cm deep x 13.5cm in height.
